KAMAND
Persian Music and Dance

The cultural legacy of the ancient kingdoms of Persia can still be seen in modern Iran. Language and metaphor is at the root of most Iranian arts, from calligraphy to poetry to music and dance. The most popular singers today still use classical poems, and most visual artists use a rich vocabulary of symbols and metaphors in their work.

The popular Iranian music ensemble Kamand performs lively programs of Persian folk and classical music played on traditional instruments. A vocalist and two dancers complete the ensemble performance. The group also offers classroom presentations on Iranian cultural and religion.
