8 Bit ShowcaseSaturday, May 23, 7-10pm
Vera Stage
The burgeoning chiptune music movement in the Northwest is centered on the work of CrunchyCo artists. This showcase, curated by DJ Phantom and Fighter X and presented by ChrunchyCo, features the best chiptune innovators in the world! Chiptune music creatively repurposes old Gameboys and video game systems to make original music with an aesthetic that true-Nintendo/Sega heads from the 80s can appreciate. We spent hours in front of the Nintendo, listening to the 8-bit magic of genius Japanese composers like Koji Kondo. With technology that is ridiculously limited by today’s standards, chiptune artists are resurrecting the sounds of these old video game systems and repurposing them for electronic dance music audiences.
The 8 Bit Showcase will feature local heroes Kids Get Hit By Buses and Fighter X, as well as trash80 from Southern California. CrunchyCo has flown in the one of the world’s best known chiptune artists, Sabrepulse, from Scotland to close out this amazing showcase!
