For generations, rural old time dance fiddlers have drawn heavily on Midwestern, Scandinavian and Western Canadian influences handed down within families and communities. Immigrants added their own styles and fiddle tunes while recent generations have drawn upon the wide variety of music found at fiddle contests and available through contemporary media.
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association presents eight of the finest fiddlers in the Northwest. Kevin Burke, the superstar of the Irish fiddling world; Junior division winner of the 2005 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle competition Rebecca Lomnickey; champion fiddler Liddy Voetberg drawing on Texas-style contest fiddling, Bluegrass and Celtic music; Marty Dahlgren, 82-year-old square dance and Western Swing fiddler; multi-talented New England fiddler, dance teacher, leader and caller David Kaynor; prominent Hungarian fiddler László Orbán; Western Swing and square dance fiddler Ramon Selby and the expert on the history of fiddle music in the Pacific Northwest, Vivian Williams, co-founder of Northwest Folklife, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association and Voyager Records.
