Ukrainian Show
Saturday, May 23, 3:00 - 6:00 pm
International Dance Stage
Five groups representing years of Folklife performances are together on one stage for an all-Ukrainian folk music and dance showcase. From traditional to contemporary, fresh approaches to age-old art forms are being passed on from generation to generation.
The music program features the Ukrainian Prairie Trio from Surrey, BC with the sounds of the multi-stringed tsymbaly; Folk trio Dva Kolory, who brings a Northwest approach to contemporary Ukrainian folk material and bandura virtuoso Ola Herasymenko with Oregon’s George Cooley and other local bandura enthusiasts. The dance program intertwines performances by Seattle-area Barvinok, a combination of younger and older dance groups with the popular and highly acclaimed Tropak Dance Theatre of Vancouver, BC featuring polished and sophisticated dances representing various regions of Ukraine. Both groups' stunningly beautiful costumes and original interpretations based on traditional dance themes are not to be missed!
