Go Green at the Northwest Folklife Festival:

Environmental sustainability is important to Northwest Folklife. We are constantly searching for new ways to make the Festival more “green."  Currently we recycle paper, convert cooking oil into clean-burning biodiesel and compost our food waste. Starting at the 2010 Festival, all food vendors used compostable food containers and with the help of Seattle Tilth, we had compost stations around grounds.

Living Green Courtyard

The 2010 Festival Living Green Courtyard (located in Alki Court) offered Festival attendees the chance to visit green Festival sponsors, browse environmentally friendly goods and learn how to live a more sustainable lifestyle in the brand new EcoActive Zone (located in the Alki Room, formerly the Folklife Store). Did you visit this area? Let us know what you thought!  To learn more about the Living Green Courtyard, watch our special Q13 FOX news segment from the 2009 Festival below.

We wish to thank the following sponsors and merchants for participating in the 2010 Living Green Courtyard:

Going green is not something we can do alone. We encourage all fans of Folklife to make green transportation choices such as riding the bus, carpooling, biking and walking. For a personalized bus schedule, try the Metro Trip Planner.

Remember, it’s your Festival; so help us sustain it for years to come!
