Northwest Folklife’s COVID-19 Updates

To our Folklife friends and family:
We are aware that there have been a lot of questions and concerns around the evolving set of circumstances regarding the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak, particularly concerning the operation of Northwest Folklife’s events and programs.

It is inherent in our mission that we promote gathering and personal interaction as a means of cultivating thriving communities. It is important that we continue to look to this as a North Star, especially in a time when fear of the unknown can promote separation and silos as default responses. It is also important that we integrate measures to promote public health and safety and take steps to ensure that the impacts of this outbreak are minimized.

We encourage you to follow the advisories and best practices available through the King County Public Health website, exercise caution and judiciousness around your personal health, as well as be conscientious of how to keep our communities healthy.

During this time, we will be exercising these higher precautionary measures:

  • The Northwest Folklife office will not be open for walk-in meetings or visitors for the foreseeable future. For the time being, any that activities within our office will be by appointment only.
  • Non-essential meetings will be rescheduled or held via online or phone platforms.
  • Northwest Folklife staff may have limited office time or be working from home whenever possible.

In some instances, we may be utilizing our media platforms to amplify public service messaging in addition to giving you the most up-to-date information on organizational response plans.

Northwest Folklife is working closely with Seattle Center to evaluate the status of this situation daily, with the goal of putting our constituents’ health and best interest at the forefront. Ultimately, we hope that our programs continue to serve as a source of community-building amidst a time of uncertainty. Should any changes or cancellations need to occur, we will communicate this immediately.
