Mass in Time of War
March 11, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm$40
Seattle Choral Company presents:
Mass in Time of War By Franz Joseph Haydn and works by Kernis and Mendelssoh.
The popular Mass in Time of War is one of the six late masses of Haydn which are among his finest works for chorus and orchestra. It was written in 1796, when Vienna was under threat by Napoleon’s army. Cannons could be heard in the city center. Those cannons are ominously portrayed by solo drums in the final movement, giving the mass its German name, Paukenmesse (Timpani Mass.) This performance of Haydn’s masterpiece promises to be powerful, joyful, and emotional.
