Seattle Folklore Society Concert – Medna Usta
March 15, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm$16.00
The last SFS show that Medna Usta played was sold out at the Tractor Tavern. Over 150 people showed up to listen to some first-class musicianship and vocals in the first set, and then they danced up a storm during the second set.
Medna Usta was formed in 1985 in Santa Cruz, California, by a group of women drawn together by their love of Bulgarian and Macedonian folk music. Singing and performing on traditional Bulgarian folk instruments, Medna Usta gained a loyal following during the late 1980s in Northern California. They are seasoned performers and have performed and taught at the Centrum International Festival in Port Townsend. Original members Anne Cleveland, Ruth Hunter and Dena Bjornlie are joined in this reunion concert/dance by Steve Finney on kaval, and Christos Govetas on Tupan.
We are very excited to have this group back and expect another great turnout, at this SFS concert.
