UkeBash! is a one-day festival dedicated to the mighty uke with a vintage jazz theme.
The resurgence of ukulele popularity is a recent phenomenon than has won the attention of rock, folk and jazz stars world-wide, as well as kitchen-players all over American and northern Europe. UkeBash! is a creation of Seattle’s beloved folk music center, Dusty Strings, to provide a complete uke experience for all – whether uke-curious or converted.
The morning opens with ukes-to-lend in a Ukalaliens workshop for Absolute Beginners, and moved into multi-level workshops on uke styles, strums and techniques by some of the most sought-after teachers in the country.
A full day of jazz-themed workshops will be followed by an evening concert of vintage jazz, jugband and swing music, featuring National uke personalities, Lil’ Rev, the Casey MacGill Trio, Kate Power & Steve Einhorn, alongside Seattle uke hero, Sunga Rose. Kate & Steve will host the concert as emcees with songs and anecdotes, in tribute to this special chapter in the American Songbook.
The workshops will be held from 10am – 5pm in the Dusty Strings Music School, and the evening concert will be held on the main stage in the Dusty Strings shop at 7:30pm. All ages are welcome. Tickets are on sale now and seat are limited, so reservations are suggested.
Information and advance tickets are available now by calling Dusty Strings at 206-634-1662 or (toll free) 866-634-1662, or by coming tin to the store, open daily, at 3406 Fremont Ave. N, Seattle.
