Program Designed for Ages 4-12 | Activities Are Fun for the Whole Family!

Global Playground

The perfect urban summertime activity, Global Playground mixes cultural connectivity with outdoor play. Set in Seattle’s most unique playground, this series celebrates outdoor fun through coordinated playground games and interactive dance and movement workshops rooted in cultural traditions. Local bands will provide a musical backdrop to keep you moving, playing, and learning!

Saturday, August 4

Rock out with local artists and organizations in a day dedicated to Rock n Roll. Get a hole in one on the Putt-Putt golf course, or try your hand at gigantic Jenga. DJ sets will keep you rocking and dancing all evening long!

Performance by the School of Rock Seattle House Band

4:30 – 5:15 PM

A fixture in Seattle that has served crowds of aspiring young rockers since 2008, School of Rock Seattle is all about curating a new generation of music-minded students who get to balance education with all the fun and awesomeness of a great jam session.

The Vera Project presents: Save Bandit

6:15 – 7:00 PM

The Vera Project presents a special performance by Save Bandit, a Seattle-based rock band composed of Jeff Dunn, Matthew Dunn, Nik Paulson, and James Cox.

International Activities with the Sponge School

Make internationally inspired projects with Sponge! Sponge offers award-winning Spanish, Mandarin, French, Japanese and German, immersion classes and tutoring to children 0-10 years old in Seattle, Kirkland, Issaquah and online.

Button Making with the Vera Project

In true DIY spirit, make your own buttons using the Vera Project’s button maker + zines/magazines/newspapers from their community! Learn a new a skill, and learn all about how the Vera Project is an all ages learning space.

Make your own Guitar Pick with Northwest Folklife

Take home your very own guitar pick that you create yourself!

Bike Works will be on hand from 5 – 7 PM to help tune your wheels!


Saturday, August 11

Groove to the roots of Hip Hop alongside talented artists and musicians. Playground games like four square, jump ropes, and sidewalk chalk will be on hand throughout the event and KEXP DJ Greg Vandy will keep moving and grooving all evening long!

Greg Vandy

Greg Vandy is the host of The Roadhouse on KEXP and a local tastemaker for independent roots music. In addition to co-publishing American Standard Time, a blog dedicated to American music and vintage lifestyle, and curating for the Pickathon music festival, Vandy is the author of 26 Songs In 30 Days: Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River Songs and The Planned Promised Land In The Pacific Northwest published by Sasquatch Books in 2016.

Hip Hop Dance with 206 Zulu

4:45 – 5:30 PM

Join 206 Zulu in learning how to Hip Hop dance and learn from some of their skilled youth performers from their Prince vs Prince Dance Competition. 206 Zulu is a network of individuals whose shared mission and purpose is to work with and empower local communities. 206 Zulu works with youth, low-income and people of color through creative and innovative means, including but not limited to programs and projects involving music, art and culture.

Totem Star Presents: kidLIO

6:15-7:00 PM

kidLIO is a lyricist and singer/songwriter. She attends NOVA High School in Seattle. kidLIO has been part of The Residency (formerly The Hip Hop Artist Residency) at MoPOP, the SPOKES Leadership Board, and the Arts Liberation and Leadership Institute.

Amy is a singer/songwriter from Lynnwood, WA. Her genre is best described as “alt-indie-pop or something.”

Totem Star presents: Sharmaine

6:15 – 7:00 PM

Sharmaine is a singer/songwriter from Seattle, WA. Her involvement in music spans from performing a rendition of Minnie Riperton’s “Loving You” for the Seattle Public School board member Betty Patu at The Royal Room to participating in The Residency, a program created for youth by Seattle’s Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Arts Corps, and MoPOP.

Curious about how to make the best bubbles? Come blow bubbles with the Pacific Science Center and learn about the Science of Bubbles!

DJ Chilly: Chilly (Will Myers) is a DJ, creative producer/audio editor, and writer for Seattle-based radio station KEXP 90.3fm / www.kexp.org. He’s the producer and host of KEXP’s modern Latin mixshow “El Sonido” (Mondays 6-9pm PST), and is also a club DJ with the Seattle Latin/global bass crew ¡Manos Arriba!

Play Chinese Jump Rope with A Glimpse of China

4:45 – 5:15 PM

Learn Chinese Jump Roping with A Glimpse of China – Chinese Culture & Arts Festival and try out some new moves with members of the Glimpse of China Festival.

Learn Brazilian Capoeira with International Capoeira Angola Foundation

5:30 – 6:15 PM

Get moving with the ICAF and learn Brazilian Capoeira, an activity that encourages strength building while working together with others. ICAF is a non-profit educational organization committed to the cultivation, preservation, and growth of the African Brazilian cultural art form Capoeira Angola. The goal is the creation of a strong and vibrant community committed to social transformation through empowering individuals to overcome both self and societally imposed limitations.

Performance by Eurodance Party USA

6:15 – 7:00 PM

Seattle-based dance band Eurodanceparty USA is composed of seven American musicians who began crafting their unique take on Balkan music together in 2013. Hailing from the Balkan-inflected brass band Orkestar Zirkonium, the global-folk-pop duo The Lonely Coast, the Eastern European Jewish folk-punk revivalist project Nu Klezmer Army, and various other ensembles, these musicians bring serious love, ridiculous beats, and high-energy dance party joy to popular songs from Albania, Bulgaria, and beyond.

Be a part of the magic! We are seeking volunteers to help with hands-on activities, information & donation booths, production, and greeting!

Volunteers receive hands-on experience with event operations, get to engage with families and can put their time towards community service requirement for schools. Please read our Volunteer Code of Conduct prior to volunteering. Thank you!
