Each year, the Seattle Children’s Festival welcomes new friends, and neighbors join in on the fun! To help you find some of the exciting new programs in store for the 2018 Children’s Festival, check out these 5 new programs not to miss.
The STEAM Lab features exciting science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics-based hands-on activities including:
- Virtual Reality: Come experience immersive tech content with Washington’s Mixed Reality (WAXR), a loose coalition of groups that include SIXR, Reel Grrls, UW CoMotion Labs, Arts Corps, NFFTY, NWFF, Pixvana, fearless360, and more, who wants to co-create the future of immersive tech with young people.
- Build Your Own Robot: Experiment with recycled robots with the Big-Brained Superheroes Club!
- Experimenting with Sound: Use science to make music ! Join Pacific Science Center and play with different objects to explore changes in frequency and amplitude that make sound.
Outside Fisher Pavilion
Got wheels? Ride into the fall season on your freshly-tuned bikes! Be sure to bring your bikes to the Festival and get them tuned and repaired by Bike Works. You can find their handy Bike Mobile parked right outside of the Fisher Pavilion.
Sound FX/Foley Arts Workshop
10:15 AM – 11:15 AM | Armory Loft 1A
Have you ever wondered about how sounds are created for movies, TV shows, video games, or the radio? Join in on this Foley Workshop and find out! Join Bushwick Northwest’s program as takes a different approach to songwriting and sound by telling a story through creating Sound FX/Foley.
Bilingual Storytime with Andrea Torres
12:15 PM – 1:00 PM Armory Loft 1B
Join Andrea Torres, a Mexican-Indigenous teacher, storyteller, and artist, in this bilingual storytime. Presented by Para Los Niños, this exciting storytime will feature family-friendly stories told in English and Spanish.
Washington Diamonds Drill Team
3:45 PM – 4:15 PM | Armory Court
Join the Washington Diamonds Drill Team, an award-winning drill team and drumline for a special outdoor performance! The Diamonds will start outside of the Fisher Pavilion at 3:15 and parade through the Seattle Center to the Armory Court stage. This nonprofit organization was formed in 2010 out of the desire of two parents to see inner-city youth come together to learn challenging choreography, build self-esteem, a positive environment and develop team building in the community.
There’s so much to see and do a this year’s Seattle Children’s Festival! From learning how to play the drums at a percussion workshop to learning about Nepali culture through dance and music, there’s a little something for everyone. What will you discover?
